In July, 2007 I took a workshop in Ireland with artist Brian Murphy from Virginia. Brian and his wife and four artists stayed in a great little B&B called Shelane owned by Mary and her husband, Tom, who was a local police officer. Barbara Mastaglio the workshop coordinator lived on Valentia Island in a hilltop house with wonderful views of the surrounding water and Portmagee. This painting is one of those views.

On the trip to the Toulouse area of France, William, our host, was driving us to another painting town. On the way we passed by this poppy field. We all screemed that we had to stop and take photos. We couldn't paint there because of he location. I'm sure every one of the thirteen artist that day has a painting from that field.

This is one of the first paintings I completed in Vancouver, BC. I was there visiting my son, Darren, with my artist friend, Rhonda from Sacremento. Blue mountains are everywhere! We stayed at a B&B that was also a sheep ranch. That was unique. Food was great.

Richard Lionheart's castle Beynac in the Perigord area of France overlooks this valley. This is the view from the ramparts. The castle in the distance, Castelnaud, was the rival to Beynac Castle during the Hundred Years War.

The hill town of St.Cirq La Popie was where I saw these umbrellas. A group of about 15 artist, most from the Cincinnati Art Club, stayed at the Haut Baran near Toulouse, France in 2005. Our host William took us to a different town each day to paint/eat. He loved to eat well! His wife, Rosalie, was a wonderful hostess and a great cook!

Just driving around Deer Isle one morning, we happened to drive down to Flye Point. Coming out through the woods we were suddenly taken by the poppy field that went down to the water. Of course we had to stop and paint.

I called this beautiful old home Daisy House. It is in Lerryn, Cornwall, England. To get there we had to drive for several miles on a one lane road with hedgerows on either side of the road. If you met another car coming from the other direction one of us had to back up to a wider area of the road. There weren't many of the "back up" areas.

Stavanger, Norway has the most spectacular skies and the air is so clear that it intensifies color. What a wonderful place to paint.

I travelled to Stavanger Norway in July 1993 to paint with a group of friends of Don Dennis. These were two old wooden boats that were still in use today. The group of about 15 watercolor artists painted on the dock where these boats were tied up.

"Phil's Cottage"

This 200 year old cottage is on the hill overlooking the little town of Mevigissey in Cornwall England on the English Channel. It belongs to a friend of mine, Phil Atkins from Chicago. Artist Gail Morrison and I stayed there and painted for two weeks several years ago. You haven't lived until you have stayed in one of these old miner's homes.
